We got out of bed at 1:00 AM and went on deck to get a glimpse of Kiritimati Island while the ship paused just outside the harbor to send a sick passenger ashore for air evacuation to Hawaii. Other than some lights and a ship at anchor there was not much to see looking towards land, but looking up from the darkened deck was an amazing sky full of stars. We plan to look skyward again tonight, but at a more civilized hour.
